Sustainability Research Institute (SRI) is a CSIRO approved, Federal Government recognised Approved Research Institute. The purpose of the Insitute is to research, develop and disseminate knowledge relevent to the implementation of sustainable practices throughout society.
SRI is a Not-For-Profit public company with DGR, Deductible Gift Recipient approval from the Australian Taxation Office.
SRI supports and promotes ventures that are ecologically, socially and economically sustainable.
Situated in the Northern Rivers Region, with offices in Byron and Lismore Shires, SRI works with other community groups, institutes of learning and research, local Councils and the regional strategic planning processes.
SRI's focus is on developing sustainable community living systems that, address local and global challenges, such as climate and ecological impacts, housing affordability, poverty & injustice and exploit opportunities for accelerating human development towards more conscious living.
The SRI vision is a worldwide network, of learning communities that effectively demonstrate how to gain and share the capacity to develop the human potential by raising consciousness and quality of life while enhancing biodiversity and the associated natural ecologies.
The SRI mission is to organise with existing communities locally, bioregionally and globally towards an integrated learning society for the wellbeing of all.
SRI intends to implement its mission by developing networks and collaborative action for the growth and sharing of knowledge and skills with a particular focus on the development of the human potential and preservation of natural ecosystems, through the provision of relevant research, education and communication resources.
SRIs methodology is to develop the human capacity to innovate and create through learning enhancement and exchange, primarily through the establishment of learning communities that focus on creating living environments that:
- provide optimal quality of life for the development of the inhabitants potential,
- explore technologies and practices that enable ecologically sustainable living and
- provide learning experiences for the general public
